Complete NOT Compete!

As women, we are wired to compare. The dictionary states the definition of compare as, “measure, or note the similarity or dissimilarity between”.   Here’s the thing, when we compare we aren’t going to measure up because we are made to be different. Just like a red delicious apple and a granny smith apple taste completely different, that is what God intended. applestoapples

We tend to compare everything, especially our clothes, homes, cars, and kids.  Why is this?  I think it is a sign of insecurity on our parts.  Why aren’t we more self-positive?  God made us in His image.  We are beautifully and wonderfully made, yet we look at other women and compare ourselves.  STOP IT!  If we start down “comparison road” we will never be happy.  When we look at other women and compare what they have to what we have, we will always be disappointed.  You will be living in a spirit of lack, and that is NOT where He wants you to be.

Now don’t go getting your panties in a wad, I’m not saying we shouldn’t strive to look our best, but my best is different from yours. you I have to be comfortable in my own skin when I’m out and about.  I’m not going to be wearing 9-inch heels, or 2-inch heels for that matter, it’s just not me.  I love my platform/wedge shoes.  They give me height without the fear of breaking my neck.  I’m not comfortable in that body-hugging dress, I do not have the body to carry that off (four babies made sure of that). I think they look awesome on other women, just not me.

How do we avoid the comparison trap? Well, first and foremost, we need to know our true value and true identity.  What the heck is she talking about?  Knowing who made you will help you determine who you are.  Knowing you are made in His image gives you the confidence you need.     After all, my value is not in my clothing or what size I wear.  God has fashioned me after His likeness and is proud of who I am.  Think of it this way, if you have children, you love them unconditionally, just as our father loves us. download (5) It doesn’t matter to him whether we are a size 2 or 2X, he just loves us.  THAT is your compass for determining your value.  My identity lies in who I am made to be.  We all have gifts, and when we use those gifts in the right way we will shine brilliantly.  Once you find your worth you will find it to be so much easier to stop comparing yourself to others, wanting what someone else has, to being happy with who you are! When you learn these two things you can be a better friend, business partner,  mom, daughter.  Go out today and be you because NO ONE ELSE, can be!
